Q. What is WordPress?
WordPress is an open source blogging platform favoured by many successful online businesses and marketers.

Q. What is the difference between a WordPress site and a static website?

In its most basic form a static website is one which does not change on a regular basis. Compare that to a WordPress site which can have static pages too, but its intention is to be more dynamic with new content added regularly via a blog. In the eyes of Google a dynamic site is more appealing to a searcher than a static site, which can lead to higher positions in the search results. Crucially for someone who does not know HTML (the code needed to make a website) it is far easier to update a WordPress site than a static one. If you can use a word processor like Microsoft Word, you can use WordPress.

Q. What is a blog?

Traditionally a blog is like an online diary, but many businesses now use the power of blogging and WordPress to communicate easily with their customers, providing support and announcing news.

Q. Do I need any special skills to run my site?

No it’s not essential. If you can use Microsoft Word you can add new content to a WordPress site. It may however be useful to know the basics of HTML, there are some great free resources online here to get you started.

Q. What is a plugin?

A plugin adds extra functionality to a WordPress site without the need for additional coding on your part. As part of the QuickSite Start Up package we will install our recommended plugins for you.

Q. Can I change the look of my site at a later date?

Yes. Due to the nature of WordPress it is easy to change the style of your site at a later date. There are free options you can install yourself, but if you are looking for that professional look for your business we can help you with that. Take a look at our collection of Site Styles here.

Q. What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimisation which basically means setting up your website correctly so that search engines like Google and Bing find and rank your site more easily for the keywords you are targeting.

Q. What is a keyword?

A keyword, sometimes referred to as a search term or keyword phrase is the word someone types into Google when they are searching for more information on that subject. It is also the word that you use to tell Google what your site or page is about. Each page of your website should be targeted to a specific keyword. For example if your business involves selling “blue widgets” you should have a page on your site that targets the term “blue widgets” so that when someone Googles “blue widgets” your site will show on the first page of listings. (This is all down to how good your on page SEO is, and the level of competition, – that is why when we create and install a site for you we set it up correctly giving you the best chance of success)
